3D and 4D Work
This work is made up of two small fluorescent lamps complete with ballasts and starters attached to a 2x2 wood segment. The piece of wood was originally driven into the ground on the north lawn in front of the Nelson-Atkins Museum to mark the location of the flag pole before it was installed during the construction of the Bloch Building addition. On two sides the words "FLAG POLE" can be seen in faded black marker. When started, the starters flash and an audible buzzing sound can be heard from the ballasts, hence the "anthem".
